The John Deere Classic will take place in Silvis, Illinois July 6-12, 2009. The field of 156 players will be competing for a purse of over $4 million. Kenny Perry is the defending champion of the event.
The first tournament was held in 1971, and has had several different names prior to being titled the John Deere Classic. In 1997, Deere and Company announced a 9-year affiliation with the event and became the title sponsor.
The Birdies for Charity program, which is a charitable program that donates money for every birdie made at the John Deere Classic, based on donations and pledges. In 2008, the program raised $4.79 million for charity. Visit the Birdies for Charity program’s site for more information.
